Law 720 of 2001 in Colombia aims to promote, regulate, and strengthen volunteering, recognizing it as a social interest activity contributing to the country's development. It defines volunteering as an activity freely carried out by a person without remuneration, for the benefit of the community, through public or private organizations.

Volunteers have rights such as receiving training and education, obtaining accreditation for their experience, participating in decision-making within the organization, and carrying out their work in safe conditions with necessary support. They also have duties, including acting responsibly and with commitment, respecting the organization's norms
and values, maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information, and not receiving financial compensation for their work. Volunteer organizations must be registered, have clear programs for volunteer management, be responsible for their training and
support, and ensure a suitable environment for volunteer activities.

Regarding insurance, the law does not establish the obligation for organizations to provide insurance for volunteers.

Volunteers can purchase any type of insurance.
